THE GIFT OF HOPE
Hiding behind and often missed during the delight of Christmas decorations, cookies, gatherings and packages is — hope. The gift of hope appears quietly yet when we train our eyes on it, we can witness it in little things like holding a door open for someone carrying heavy bags to giving up a prime parking spot to giving assistance and compassion to others enduring difficult times.
A disabled veteran in the midst of hardship recently called the food bank. After serving honorably, Marcus returned to civilian life with physical disabilities that made traditional employment difficult. His life was upended by the sudden death of his wife, leaving him to raise their two young children alone while navigating his own grief and medical challenges. He shared that most days he is paralyzed with fear and anxiety, not knowing from where his children’s next meal is going to come. With his voice quivering, Marcus continued, “I have no mobility and cannot even get myself to the food bank.” Although our Angel on Wheels program which delivers groceries to housebound individuals is currently at capacity, we said to him, “We will get food to you and your kids. You are not alone.”
The gift of hope is a confident expectation rooted in a trustworthy God who promises restoration and provision for the hurting. Hope is manifested in sacrificial generosity as it is anchored in an eternal future where time and finances are irrelevant, so we can be generous with those resources in our present life.
Hope comes to our wounded guests through the sacrificial giving from our supporters and donors like you.
So thank you for sharing the gift of hope for our hungry neighbors in need yesterday, today and the days ahead.
HOW FOLSOM’S GENEROSITY IS MAKING THE HOLIDAYS BRIGHTER
This holiday season, we have seen hope come alive through the ways we come together and care for one another.
In Folsom, it took shape downtown with the “Wrapping Rotarians”, Folsom’s Rotary Club who spent December turning every ribbon and bow into meals for families in need. It showed up on Thanksgiving morning at the Turkey Trot hosted by Capitol Adventure, where 4,600 runners and their families stopped by our booth, donated food, and turned a community race into acts of generosity—and as one of the event’s beneficiaries, we received a $45,000 donation that will help feed even more neighbors in need. Hope even glided across the ice during Folsom Historic District’s Donate and Skate, where $2 from every skate admission supported neighbors facing hunger. Hope even reached beyond community events, as the inmates from Folsom State Prison raised and donated an incredible $7,000.
Even in the hardest moments, brighter days are possible because hope is what happens when a community comes together to lift the downtrodden.
A GRANDMOTHERS LOVE SHINES BRIGHT THIS CHRISTMAS
After losing her daughter just over a year ago, Kerri became the sole caregiver for her grandchildren. With an absentee father, she welcomed them into her care without hesitation and with deep love. With that love came greater financial responsibility that her fixed social security income would prove to fall short.
This Christmas, Kerri cannot afford gifts for her grandchildren, a reality that broke her heart. However, she is doing what she can with the little she has by creating handwritten cards filled with love. Thanks to the food bank, Kerri can keep healthy food on the table—ensuring her grandchildren are nourished, cared for, and loved.
KEEPING THE PROMISE OF HOPE
Stories like Kerri’s are why this work matters—and why your support is so powerful. Even in the hardest moments, brighter days are possible, because hope shows up through community.
Your generosity is the reason they don’t have to walk this road alone. To keep up with the growing demand, we set a $50,000 goal to offset the cost of the influx of guests we are seeing each month—and thanks to supporters like you, $38,000 has already been raised. Together, we can raise the remaining $12,000 before the end of 2025.
As this year comes to an end, would you support your hungry neighbors by donating a one-time gift of $50, $75, or $100 to help feed a family in need and keep the promise of hope this Christmas?
BUILDING HOPE FOR TOMORROW
This Christmas season, hope is taking root in a powerful and permanent way. After years of prayer, planning, and perseverance, Twin Lakes Food Bank has officially closed escrow and is now the proud owner of the land where our new food bank will be built.
Located directly across Montrose Drive from our current home, this 1.78-acre site represents more than property—it represents promise. For nearly 29 years, we’ve served our community from a renovated duplex. Today, we serve more than 34,000 neighbors each year, and the need continues to grow
Thanks to the generosity of Mount Olive Lutheran Church, whose land has already nurtured our organic garden producing thousands of pounds of fresh food annually, this site will soon become a campus of service and care. With this milestone reached, we’re moving forward with design and construction—creating a space that will expand food storage, offer a grocery-style choice experience, and better serve working families.
This Christmas season, we are reminded that hope is something we build together. Thanks to the incredible generosity of our community, we are now two-thirds of the way toward our goal, turning a shared vision into a lasting home where neighbors can find nourishment, dignity, and care.
Campaign Progress So Far
As we enter the final stretch of our Capital Campaign, our hearts are full of gratitude for every gift and pledge that has brought us this far. Together, we are building more than a new facility—we are building hope that will serve our community for generations to come.
