THANKFUL & BLESSED
“At the end of life, we will not be judged by how many diplomas we have received, how much money we have made, how many great things we have done. We will be judged by: I was hungry, and you gave me something to eat. I was naked and you clothed me. I was homeless, and you took me in.” Mother Theresa wrote these words while leading the Missionaries of Charity, where she devoted her life toward feeding the hungry.
During the recent government shut down which included the suspension of SNAP benefits, the plight of the hungry became front and center in our nation. Many of us who care and advocate for our food insecure neighbors were disappointed to witness the impasse in Washington, DC that adversely impacted our most vulnerable citizens.
However, disappointment transformed to hope and gratitude, when individuals in our community saw the crisis unfold and stepped up to help in extraordinary ways. Over the last four weeks, Twin Lakes Food Bank received numerous food and monetary donations, along with people calling to volunteer. We held our yearly gala in the midst of the uncertainty, and the generosity exceeded all expectations.
This is a season when we collectively express gratitude for God’s goodness to his people. I am especially grateful to each of you for, like Mother Teresa, not only recognizing the hungry, but choosing to feed them — the elderly, the sick, and the children.
As these stories will reflect, members of our community are taking little and big steps to lift up the marginalized, building a legacy that is not temporary, but eternal. And for that, my heart is full of Thanksgiving.
SHINING BRIGHT:A RECORD BREAKING EVENING OF GENEROSITY
In a season that has felt very heavy for us, the Starry Night Gala reminded us how much good can happen when a community comes together. From the first greeting to the final toast, the room buzzed with generosity. Sponsors gave beyond expectation, volunteers moved seamlessly with care and energy, and guests—both familiar faces and new friends—opened their hearts, and wallets, in ways that lifted everyone around them.
By the end of the night, we didn’t just meet our goal—we shattered it, setting a new record for funds raised. Those dollars will put food on tables, ease the burden for families, and strengthen programs that touch lives every day. And as we left the gala, it was impossible not to feel the quiet blessing of being part of a community that gives so freely, so joyfully, and so completely.
RISING TOGETHER:NEIGHBORS STEPPED UP IN EXTRAORDINARY WAYS
When CalFresh benefits were paused during the government shutdown, we were faced with the reality that many families who relied on SNAP benefits would have nowhere to turn but the food bank. We weren’t sure how we would meet such a rapid influx of guests—but, like always, our community didn’t hesitate.
We saw an increase in monetary donations, which allowed us to purchase even more non-perishable food to meet the growing need. Local businesses organized spontaneous food drives, and schools, clubs, and faith communities reached out, asking how they could help. Food donations poured in so generously that our offsite warehouse is now filled to the brim—and barrels are still scattered throughout town.
We are profoundly grateful and in awe of our community’s outpouring of support. We’ve seen it over the last 3 weeks reflected in the misty eyes of veterans, the joy in children’s smiles, and the warm embrace of many of our guests.
TURKEYS & TRIMMINGS : SERVING HOPE TO OVER 400 FAMLIES
As we wrapped up our final Turkey & Trimmings distribution, the need has never been clearer—or more heartfelt. More than 425 guests signed up to receive Thanksgiving meals, thanks to over a dozen churches, organizations, and businesses who have generously donated food and funds.
Last week, a guest who registered for a free turkey called to offer his meal to someone hit hard by the CalFresh suspension. Another guest teared up upon receiving her Thanksgiving box and Safeway gift card, sharing her relief that she could not only feed her family this month but truly celebrate the holiday—something many of us take for granted.
These are the little moments that remind us why our work matters. While hunger doesn’t end with one meal, together, we make it possible for families to experience hope today while they continue fighting for stability tomorrow.
BUILDING HOPE FOR THE FUTURE
In this season of thanksgiving and blessings, we are continuously reminded of the power of community. Our Capital Campaign is a testament to what happens when we all come together. Each gift, pledge, and conversation is building something lasting — a new facility designed to serve our community for generations to come.
Campaign Progress So Far
Every number represents not just dollars, but hearts invested in hope. Because of your generosity, we are closer than ever to turning vision into reality — a space where every neighbor can find nourishment, dignity, and care.
As we enter the final stretch of our campaign, we’re filled with gratitude for those who’ve already joined us. If you haven’t yet had the opportunity to meet with us, we’d love to share our vision and show how your support can help bring this dream to life.
Together, we are building more than a facility — we are building hope for the future.
