When early-onset health issues kept Pamela from working, she ended up living on disability and, eventually, without a home. For nearly eight years, Twin Lakes Food Bank was a steady place to turn: groceries, encouragement, and familiar faces when life got harder than she could manage alone.
Then, in September, our phone rang.
It was Pamela. She had been accepted into transitional housing. For the first time in nearly a decade, she had signed a lease.
She described the apartment over the phone. “It’s small, but it’s clean, and it’s mine.” You could hear the joy in her voice. After all these years without a home of her own, she finally had a door to lock and a place to start rebuilding.
But Pamela didn’t call just to share her news. She called to thank us for standing with her through every hard season, and to ask us to celebrate with her.
Our guests aren’t just names on a sign-in sheet. These are people who trust us with their challenges and sorrows. So when good news finally comes, we get to celebrate with them too.
Last year, 551 families walked through our doors for the first time. Each one arrived in the middle of a story we don’t know the ending to yet. Your support means that when their phone call comes, we’ll still be here to answer it.
